We barely missed the 9:00 AM ferry by 1 minute. :( The next ferry wasn't for another hour, so we ended up getting a light breakfast at a nearby bakery. The ferry lady suggested this awesome bakery across the street. Great idea.
True to form, Don ordered savory, while I ordered sweet. (Cinnamon roll? Yes, please.)
Gate #5. Calling all passengers.
The ferry ride was fun, as were all of the entertaining small children. Here we are upon arrival at Peaks Island.
While we were running around the island, we spotted this amazing rock garden. From what we could tell, visitors to the island play a balancing game with the rocks on the shore.
So...I had to join in the fun. I tried making a little rock tower of mine own. Unfortunately, it fell not too long after this picture.
After we finished our run, Don noticed something spectactular on his shirt. He called me over to show me how the sweat marks on the front of his shirt resembled a lobster! How appropriate! Maine couldn't have been happier with us. We held up a lobster postcard for comparison. Quite a resemblence, yeah?
After leaving Peaks Island, we continued up the coast to Pemaquid Point, Maine. On the way, we stopped at Fat Boy Diner, which is famous for its Lobster Rolls and BLT's. (We were done with lobster, however. Sorry Fat Boy.)
It is also famous for the "Whoper". Yes, only one "p" in their Whoper.
Back in the day, I guess Fat Boy Diner used to serve their very famous "Whopper Burger". However, this small diner out in the middle of nowhere Maine was important enough to ruffle the feathers of Burger King. Burger King actually sued Fat Boy for using the "Whopper" title on their menu!
Well, Fat Boy didn't give up so quickly. Rather than scrap the menu, they capitalized on the opportunity to drop a "p" from the burger name and have a fantastic story to tell for years to come. Go Fat Boy!
That night, we stayed in this beautiful inn! It was only about 400 meters from the shore. Another perfect morning run.
This is the famous Pemaquid Point lighthouse. When Maine residents were asked to vote on a lighthouse to put on their new state quarters, this lighthouse was voted #1. Supposedly, this is the most photographed lighthouse in New England.
After admiring the lighthouse, we scrambled down the rocks to the shoreline. It was really soothing to sit and watch the waves for a while.
Pretty waves.
By this time, the sun was going down, and heavy rains were rolling in. So, we opted for a quiet night inn. (haha, pun intended).
Day 3 to come!
