Winter Activities

This winter has been full of airplanes, museums, walks, and family time.  I'm grateful that the cold weather didn't slow us down!

We flew back and forth to Utah a couple times this winter.  Auggie is becoming more challenging on the planes these days, mostly because he refuses to sleep.  He sleeps so well at home, but there is just too much excitement on the plane for him.  He doesn't want to miss out on anything!

We took Auggie up to Park City on our Utah trip in January, and Don held him as he skied down the bunny hill for thirty yards or so.  It was no surprise that Auggie loved it!  We got it all on video...Auggie with a big grin on his face, and Don skiing down announcing, "Auggie on skiiiiiiiiiiiiiis!"

We went to story time with the Quebe cousins while we were in Provo.  I have to say, the whole thing was very well prepared and put together.  It was a full house, and the highlight for all the kiddos was the puppet show.  Also, I can't even with Auggie's sweet little concentration face!

We also joined Auggie's other cousins for a morning field trip to the Bean Life Science Museum.  We went with Gracie's preschool class, and it did not disappoint.  I had no idea that such life-like scenes could be taxidermied!  Also, I was for sure that taxidermied wasn't a real word, but it is.  Weird. 

When we got back to Pittsburgh, we had a couple of days to spend together as a family.  We used our time wisely and went adventuring!  Auggie has been pretty into his dinosaur jammies lately, so we took him to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History to see the dinosaurs.  It was a great day, complete with digging up some "bones" at the interactive archeological site.

Another day, another museum.  Some friends in our ward had extra passes to the Carnegie Museum of Science, so I accepted without hesitation.  Suffice it to say, the Carnegie Museum of Science is beyond.  It's like five levels of mind blowing science fun for kids of all ages.  It's gotta be top rated on a list somewhere.

We also took Auggie to the Cathedral of Learning to see the Nationality Rooms.  One of the buildings on University of Pittsburgh campus is known for its thirty one classrooms that are individually built/decorated in the style of a different nationality.  For example, there is a Russian room, a Greek Room, an Italian room, etc. etc.  These rooms function as normal classrooms, but you can also tour them during certain times of the week.  During the Holidays, each room is decorated with traditional decorations from their respective cultures.  Cool!  Construction on the first Nationality Room began in 1926, and they've been building them ever since.

And last but not least, we love our neighborhood walks in the winter.  Lawrenceville is always full of surprises, like the most perfect instagram-worthy graffiti wall to take artsy pictures of your child in front of.
